In light of Ford’s recent efforts to offload its underperforming Jaguar marque, the new XF looks like the car capable of breathing much needed life into the brand.

The stylish XF puts a contemporary spin on the classic-yet-extrovert styling that Jaguar is famous for, setting a new direction for the next generation of Jaguar sedans, combining the performance of a sports car with the comfort of an executive model.

And the coupe aesthetics encompass the family-friendly functionality of a four-door sedan.

A lightweight and rigid chassis makes for superb handling. The standard engine is a 4.2-liter V8 capable of an impressive 0-60 mph performance in 6.2 seconds, while a supercharged version of this engine can achieve 0-60 in a lightning quick 5.1 seconds. V6 and diesel versions are also available.

A six-speed automatic transmission features shift-by-wire control, a system designed for rapid and smooth gear shifting. T

The ‘JaguarDrive Control’ system means drivers can select gears manually via paddles on the steering wheel and can switch from Park to Reverse to Drive and other shift modes via a rotary knob.

This system allows selection of modes that match shift strategies, throttle progression and dynamic stability control settings to mood and conditions.

Available from March, The XF starts at £33, 900, with the V8 available for £44,500, and the Supercharged model retailing at £54,900.
